HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT MY SCARF LOOKS LIKE!?

I was recently watching confessions of a shopaholic, and I realized at the part where Rebecca goes in for the interview and is freaked out because the guy who gave he $20 to go buy the scarf for Her "dieng aunt". When she is later caught with the scarf which she tried to hide by throwing it on someone's desk, Luke (The man who loaned her the money) looks at it and seems to recognize it as the scarf she bought. But this couldn't be possible because Luke has never seen the scarf and so Rebecca shouldn't half to worry because when she met Luke she was wearing a coat, so he couldn't have know she was wearing a scarf. Also, Rebecca could have just said she was going to give the scarf to her aunt after the interview, because before she was in a rush to go to her interview. Luke later says after Rebecca is caught and she tries to recover by saying her aunt died, " well you've had a very hard 25 minutes." New York is a big place and it would take a while for Rebecca to travel to the hospital and see her aunt, and yet Luke finds this story completely logical...

I guess it's just one of those things.
